Challenge:
Wyoming Travel & Tourism tapped The1stMovement to create an interactive experience that would encourage tourists to visit areas of Wyoming that are less travelled or known. Working in collaboration with the Wyoming Tourism lead brand agency, Barnhart USA, we focused our efforts on reaching a targeted audience from the states of Colorado and Utah. The goal of the site was to provide a dynamic online destination where visitors could explore road trips taken by others and share tales all their own.
With an aggressive production schedule of one month, we utilized the latest tools of the trade to craft an aggregator site unlike any we had seen in the tourism space. Titled Road Trip Wyoming, this social aggregator site stood alone as a single experiential opportunity to reach our audience via social channels directly. To promote site visits and brand extensions, the microsite was introduced through a link on the official travel and tourism site of WyomingTourism.org.
Results:
Road Trip Wyoming contains an engaging intuitive interface that encourages visitors to share trip ideas and explore journeys that others have taken. The site was seeded with ten road trips, complete with maps and descriptions of stops along the way. Content is pulled dynamically from social media networks including YouTube, Flickr and Twitter, and augmented with a feed from the Wyoming Travel & Tourism main website. Key search words were carefully selected to feature both main attractions and the more obscure adventures Wyoming has to offer. Additionally, the backend was designed with scalability in mind for future evolution.
Road Trip Wyoming is the only social media aggregator site for state tourism in the U.S. It was chosen as a Communication Arts Webpick of the Week upon going live. In the first quarter following launch, over 83% of the site traffic consisted of new visits and the average time spent on site exceeded six minutes.
